In which I meet Zed
Yesterday I met the one and only
pelicanzed in the glamorous environs of the Starbucks inside Borders in Oxford Street. I arrived at something like quarter to ten (after getting up at seven, somewhat earlier than necessary) and noticed a gothish girl tapping away at a laptop covered in stickers advertising metal bands. 'Yes,' she said, 'I am Zed.'
We then spent the next two and a half hours chatting about, among other things, American politics, university life and the joys of being woken by fire alarms in the middle of the night, writing, job-hunting, travel, the decline of retailing in Britain, and, for a remarkably short amount of time, other Livejournalers. Zed declined to purchase anything to eat or drink on a point of principle, since the reckons that Starbucks sucks. Instead, she surruptitiously ate some Smarties, which she said were her breakfast. I didn't eat anything either, which later proved to be rather a mistake.
Here you can see Zed hiding behind her laptop and writing away. Actually, she's pretending to write for the benefit of the camera, but this is more or less the sight that greeted me when I arrived.
I have now had my first proper meeting with another LJer. Yay for me. (My first encounter with another LJer,
weedlover, alas lasted all of about ten seconds.)
